This is the heirloom Santa — the one that comes out of the box to gasps each year. Dressed in a sumptuous burgundy velvet robe trimmed with soft faux fur and finished with tartan cuffs and hem, he carries a sack of parcels over one shoulder and a beautifully wrapped gift in his arm. The detailing is wonderfully tactile, from his flowing white beard to the gleaming buckle at his waist. Substantial and richly made, he has real, room-filling presence.
He's the centrepiece figure a traditional Christmas is built around.
The Santa the whole house gathers near — and the children remember.
By the hearth or tree. Stand him beside the fireplace or at the foot of the tree where his velvet and fur can be admired in full.
Flanking the entryway. Position him near the front door to greet arriving guests with armfuls of gifts.
