Translucent scarlet glass blown into a generous round sphere, finished with a brushed gold crown and gold hanging thread. The colour glows where light passes through and deepens almost to crimson at the curve — bright without ever tipping into plastic. Glossy, weighty and satisfying to hang.
The classic, done properly. Nothing else needed.
Style note — the tree: Cluster three at different depths so the red reads as pools of colour rather than dots.
Style note — the mantel: Nestle a handful into garland or pile them into a footed bowl.
On a traditional red-and-gold tree. Mix with brass stars, tartan ribbon and warm white lights — the translucent glass catches the glow rather than reflecting it flatly.
On a bare-branch display in a pale room. Hang a dozen on twisted birch in a tall vase and let the scarlet be the only colour in the space.
